Donegal GAA fan Julia (106) hoping for a second date with Sam

By Donna Deeney

At 106, Julia McAteer is Donegal's oldest GAA fan and on Sunday she will be willing Jimmy McGuinness's boys to victory over Kerry in this year's All-Ireland Final at Croke Park.

Despite her advanced years, Julia maintains a healthy interest in life and anything to do with Donegal, and is fully expecting to see her team lift the Sam Maguire and bring it back home this weekend.

Julia is well prepared for Sunday's match and will be bedecked in her own custom-made shirt emblazoned with the number 106, made especially for her by O'Neill's sports company.

Along with the other residents of Nazareth House Nursing home where Julia has lived for the past two years, she has marked each step of Donegal's road to Croke Park with keen interest.

Julia is hoping that a win for her county will mean that she can get to grips with the coveted cup once again.

Sitting in pride of place on Julia's bedside locker is a photograph of her holding tightly to the Sam Maguire in 2012, a proud moment she hopes to repeat after Sunday.

She joked: "There's nobody in Kerry can beat the Donegal boys, just so long as they don't want me to play for them in my jersey."
