Double drugs tragedy mum backs run for Addiction NI

By Allan Preston

A woman who lost both her son and brother to drugs on the same day has called for more support for addiction services.

Natasha Scott said she was left “heartbroken” by the loss of her son Mark (24) and brother Gavin (38) in Newtownabbey on October 28 last year.

Her son had been studying accountancy while her brother was a pharmacy graduate from Queen’s University who later went on to work with computers.

This Sunday, Ms Scott will pay tribute to them by officially starting a fun run in Ormeau Park, organised by Addiction NI.

“Our family has been left devastated by their loss and we are now on our own journey of recovery,” she commented.

“If, by raising awareness and funds for Addiction NI, I can help just one person beat their battle with addiction, it will help pave the path to recovery for my own family.”

To date, a fundraiser started by Ms Scott has raised nearly £1,800.

The event takes place this Sunday in Ormeau Park at 10am. Details of how to register can be found at
