Downpatrick GP McGoldrick who falsified clinical trials struck off

By John Cassidy

A crooked doctor convicted of falsifying clinical trials for his own financial gain has been struck off as a GP.

Hugh Patrick Mary McGoldrick from Crossgar Road East, Downpatrick in Co Down, had pleaded guilty last year to two counts of submitting false information on patients during a sleep disorder research trial between 2007 and 2008.

Now a Medical Practitioners Tribunal (MTP) hearing has ruled the 59-year-old can no longer practice. A lawyer for the General Medical Council said: "His dishonesty related to clinical trials and was at the highest end of the scale."

In its ruling, the MTP stated McGoldrick had "limited insight into the seriousness of his behaviour" and he had "lied and put patients at potential risk" when challenged, though it had no information to suggest patients had suffered actual harm.
