Downpatrick man John Joseph Blaney named as Northern Ireland road crash victim

Police have confirmed Downpatrick man John Joseph Blaney was the victim of a road crash on Friday.

He was 32 and from the Mearne Road area of Downpatrick.

The two-vehicle crash happened on the Ballagh Road at around 12.30pm.

Mr Blaney was travelling in a Citroen which was involved in a crash with a Skoda Octavia close to the Bloody Bridge on the road between Newcastle and Annalong.

Two people who were travelling in the Skoda did not sustain any serious injuries as a result of the collision, police said.

The Ballagh Road was closed for a time and has since re-opened.

They have appealed for anyone who was travelling on the Ballagh Road on Friday and who witnessed the collision, or anyone who may have dash cam footage, to contact the collision investigation unit on 101 quoting reference 782 of 19/07/19.
