Dozing man found with drugs in car

By Nevin Farrell

A solicitor said a Co Antrim man who pleaded guilty to having illegal drugs was from a "very respectable family".

In the dock at Ballymena Magistrates Court yesterday was Jamie Gregg (26), a factory dispatch worker of Killagan Road, Glarryford, who admitted possessing herbal cannabis.

A prosecutor said police found Gregg sleeping in the driver's seat of a car with the engine running at a car park in Cullybackey just after midnight on January 21 this year.

After a search the drugs were found, and Gregg made full admissions to police.

Defence solicitor David McIlrath said his client was intending to emigrate to Australia.

Deputy District Judge Joe Rice said it was not the first time the defendant had been caught with drugs and said the conviction would "make global travel very difficult", and would also have "social" and employment consequences.

Gregg was fined £400.
