Drink driving: police in Belfast publish photo to highlight the dangers

By Sue Doherty

A driver and passenger had a lucky escape on Saturday night after their car mounted the kerb and crashed into a lamppost in Belfast.

The PSNI in West Belfast posted a photo on Facebook of the damage done to the car as a warning to other motorists not to drink and drive.

In the post, the police wrote: "This is the result of drink driving!

"The driver of this vehicle decided it would be a good idea to drive home despite being almost three times over the legal limit.

"A female passenger was left trapped inside and had to be cut from the vehicle.

"Luckily Woodbourne LPT officers responded quickly and tasked ambulance and the fire service and arrested the driver for various motoring offences.

"Luckily tonight nobody was killed or seriously injured but things could have been very different.

"Don't be stupid...don't drink and drive."
