An attempted car hijacking on Tuesday in Co Down was foiled when the victim pulled the would-be thief out of his vehicle.

It happened at Annacloy Road in Downpatrick at around 7.30pm.

It was reported that a man was driving a red Vauxhall Corsa to the junction of the A7 Belfast Road when a blue 4x4 vehicle stopped in front of the Corsa.

"Two men got out of the vehicle, with one man grabbing the driver from the Corsa and attempting to drive off," a PSNI spokesman said.
