Driving ban for man 'hit by a stiletto'

By Nevin Farrell

A drink driver claimed he was on his way to hospital as his head was bleeding after being struck with a stiletto heel in a Portstewart takeaway bust-up.

At Coleraine Magistrates Court yesterday, Curtis McAfee (23), of Railway View, Macfin, near Ballymoney, admitted driving while unfit at 2.45am on February 10 this year.

A prosecutor said when police stopped McAfee in a BMW he was above the alcohol limit.

Defence solicitor Denise Gillan said McAfee was in a takeaway when a fight broke out. He was caught in the crossfire and struck on the head with a stiletto heel.

Later, in his house, he noticed his head still bleeding and drove to his girlfriend's house to get her to drive him to hospital.

He had only gone a short distance when he was caught by police who were on their way to see him as part of following up the earlier takeaway incident.

McAfee was banned from driving for a year and fined £350.
