Driving tests cancelled after security alert in Ballymena
Motorists booked to sit their driving tests had hopes dashed after being caught up in a security alert.
An object discovered under a car sparked the alert at the busy Pennybridge Industrial Estate in Ballymena yesterday, but was later found to be nothing untoward.
Earlier, the area was cordoned off as army bomb disposal officers carried out two controlled explosions. PSNI Chief Inspector Stephen McCauley said: "The suspicious object was not an explosive device. We are confident that there is no cause for concern for the local community."
A DoE spokesman said staff were evacuated from the test centre and driving tests cancelled during the alert, although they later resumed. No vehicle tests were being conducted at the time. He added: "Those affected will be offered another date and time. Customers can contact 028 2565 6801."
