Drug dealer Mark Dunford captured in Spain after year on run

A drug dealer who has been on the run for more than a year has been captured in Spain.

Mark Dunford, 41, admitted supplying amphetamines but failed to appear in court for his sentencing in February last year.

He was due to be sentenced for his part in illegal drugs supply in Coleraine and Ballymena after police officers seized almost £900,000 worth of drugs in September 2012.

The absconder, originally from Waterford in Ireland, but with an address in Coleraine, Northern Ireland, was arrested in Spain on a European Arrest Warrant on Saturday June 25.

Detective Inspector Tom McClure from the reactive and organised crime branch of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), leading the investigation said: "Mark Dunford was arrested in Spain on Saturday 25 June as a result of our continued inquiries and assistance from colleagues in the National Crime Agency and Spanish police."

Dunford is due to appear at Ballymena Magistrates' Court on Wednesday July 6, and a date for his sentencing at crown court will be set.
