Drug supplier said cannabis was for ill pal

A former actors’ agent who claimed to have bought cannabis for a disabled friend was given a three-month suspended jail sentence yesterday.

Patrick James Thorold Duncan told police who found scales and 15 grams of the drug in his car that he wanted to ensure the dealer did not cheat him. The 58-year-old, of Glencairn Street, Belfast, was convicted of having cannabis with intent to supply.

He was detained in the west of the city on April 22.

Police searches also recovered numerous small resealable bags.

Belfast Magistrates Court heard Duncan claimed to have gone to the Poleglass area to buy cannabis for a friend suffering from multiple sclerosis.

His jail term was suspended for a year.
