Dungannon man jailed for nine months over 18-punch attack

By Ashleigh McDonald

A man who punched his cousin in the head 18 times during a fight has been handed a nine-month prison sentence.

Belfast Crown Court heard that while Dwayne Michael Mullan (28) did not start the drink and drug-fuelled altercation, he "very much finished it".

Mullan, from Fairmount Park in Dungannon, pleaded guilty to a single charge of attempting to wound his cousin with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm in relation to the incident in Belfast city centre on November 26.

Mullan, who admitted he was under the influence of drugs at the time, was ordered to serve 18 months on licence after his release from jail after it emerged that the Probation Board had deemed him as presenting a danger to the community.
