Two men were arrested in south Armagh yesterday following two arson attacks.

Police received a report shortly after 12.40am yesterday that three cars and one van had been set alight at the Carn View area of Newry.

The front windows of a house in the area were damaged, as well as a glass panel of the front door.

No one was inside.

The Fire & Rescue Service extinguished the vehicles on fire.

Then at around 2.05am it was reported that two cars parked in Woodside Park, Bessbrook, had been set alight and two other vehicles were also damaged.

A number of men were seen in the area at the time. They left in a dark VW Golf. The arrests were made a short time later.

"The two men aged 28 and 25 years old were arrested on suspicion of a number of offences in the Bessbrook area. Both men are currently assisting police with their enquiries," the PSNI said.
