Duo sentenced for sneaking drugs into a police station

A couple caught red-handed with drugs inside a police station custody suite last year have been sentenced at Londonderry’s Crown Court.

Ciaran Paul Hogan (26), whose address was given as care of Maghaberry Prison, and who had 53 previous convictions, was jailed for six months.

He admitted possessing small quantities of amphetamines and of alprazolam, an anxiety depressant.

Catrina Johnston (24), from Altcar Park, pleaded guilty to possessing and supplying the same drugs to Hogan.

She was ordered to complete 80 hours of community service and put on probation for 18 months.

A prosecution barrister said that on January 10 last year Hogan was arrested for burglary, an offence for which he was jailed. After his arrest he phoned Johnston from the police station at Strand Road in Derry and asked her to bring the drugs to him.
