DUP's Shannon tables motion on keeping the Christ in Christmas
DUP MP Jim Shannon has tabled a motion calling for the conservation of the "real meaning of Christmas".
In an Early Day Motion put before the House of Commons, Mr Shannon called for the house to recognise "the real meaning of Christmas being the celebration of the birth of Christ".
In the motion, he urges the public to "to keep Christ in their Christmas and to use the time to show love to family, friends, neighbours and community alike".
The motion also takes the opportunity to "wish everyone in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland a very Happy Christmas and a blessed New Year".
It was signed by fellow DUP members Paul Girvan, Emma Little Pengelly, Gavin Robinson and David Simpson.
The nature of Early Day Motions means that this particular proposal is unlikely to go any further.
They are used to put on record the views of individual MPs or to draw attention to particular events, and the majority only attract one or two signatures.
