Durkan hits out after men shot in separate attacks in Derry
Two men were shot last night in separate paramilitary-style attacks in Londonderry's Ballymagroarty area.
The men, believed to be in their 30s, were attacked at O'Casey Court and Corrie Court shortly after 8pm.
An Ambulance Service spokesman said they received reports of a shooting at 8.10pm, and sent an ambulance and a rapid response paramedic to the scene.
The paramedic team found the victim who had gunshot wounds to his legs and hands.
While attending the first incident, paramedics learned of another incident nearby, in which a man had been shot in the legs.
Foyle MLA Mark H Durkan said the shootings would have been a frightening experience for the local community going about their business on a Friday night.
"Violence does nothing but lead to more victims and create more violence," the SDLP MLA said.
Mr Durkan said that "nothing can be achieved" by such violence.
