A golden Eagle that escaped from a Co Antrim bird sanctuary is back home.

The bird, named Griff, had been missing from World of Owls in Randalstown since last week.

It escaped from its enclosure at the sanctuary, and despite the efforts of Mike Gibb from World of Owls, the eagle - who has lived there for the past eight years - was missing until Saturday morning.

Griff's welcomed return was revealed in a Facebook post by Mr Gibb. "The eagle has landed, Griff is home," he wrote.

"After scouring hundreds of miles he was in a tree half a mile from us.

"We are delighted. Thank you everyone."
