Eamonn Magee Jr: Community lights candles at vigil for murdered boxer

By Claire Cromie

A vigil was held on Tuesday night in memory of Eamonn Magee jnr, who was murdered on Saturday morning.

The 22-year-old was stabbed in the Twinbrook area of West Belfast and died in hospital from his injuries.

His father is former WBU welterweight champion Eamonn Magee Sr.

The agony bore heavily on his distraught father and mother, Mary, as they lit candles and released heart-shaped balloons in memory of their son.

Dozens turned out to pay their respects.

Young Eamonn Magee had followed his father into the boxing ring and his death sent shockwaves through the world of boxing.

A Turkish barman has been remanded in custody charged with his murder.

There were angry scenes as Orhan Koca appeared at Craigavon Magistrates' Court on Monday.

His solicitor says he had "nothing to do" with the killing.
