Elaborate hoax security alert forces east Belfast residents out of their homes overnight

An elaborate hoax was the cause of a security alert in east Belfast.

Police attended a call of a suspicious object at a house at Glenluce Gardens at 11am on Wednesday.

Residents were forced to evacuate their homes while Army bomb experts examined the object and carried out a controlled explosion.

People were allowed back into their homes at 3am on Thursday.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and police have appealed for anyone with any information to contact police at Musgrave on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
