Emmerdale star Adele gives our Maggie a makeover

From Cathy in Wuthering Heights to Belfast's Maggie Muff.

Former Emmerdale actress Adele Silva has arrived in Northern Ireland to take on the English version of hit play 51 Shades Of Maggie.

The 32-year-old Londoner arrived in Belfast this week to rehearse with playwright Martin Lynch ahead of a 28-date UK tour starting on September 10 at Theatre Royal, Newcastle.

Lynch is producer and director of the play which began life as Leesa Harker's parody of the erotic novel 50 Shades Of Grey.

Called 50 Shades Of Red, White and Blue, the stage adaptation has so far entertained tens of thousands of theatre fans in Northern Ireland, the Republic, Scotland and Australia and has been adapted yet again into the new theatre show, 51 Shades Of Maggie.

Instead of Maggie Muff being a Belfast girl drinking in a Shankill Road shebeen, the former girlfriend of ex-Northern Ireland international Warren Feeney is an East End London girl drinking in the Red Lion.

Speaking exclusively to the Belfast Telegraph yesterday, Adele said she was excited about her first one-woman show.

"I came back over to see Caroline Curran in 50 Shades Of Red, White and Blue at the Grand Opera House," she said.

"I couldn't believe it, it was a Monday night and the theatre was packed out; it was fully booked, it's quite incredible."

Lynch added: "Adele is a fantastic actress. She's bringing a whole new physicality to the role there wasn't before."
