Enda Dolan: I'm sorry from bottom of my heart, says dad of passenger

The passenger in the van that killed Enda Dolan, William Ross Casement, was at home last night but would not face the media.

His father apologised on his behalf, saying the death of the young student would stay with both of them for the rest of their lives.

William Casement Sr said: "The only comment I would like to make is, between me and my son, we're totally sorry for that mother and father that lost that young lad and my heart goes out for him, my son's heart goes out for him. Coming out of the court today we wanted to show respect for that family. There's no words I can say. I'm going to live with this the rest of my life, my son's going to live with this the rest of his life.

"I can't say anything that's going to make their pain any easier. I totally apologise to that young lad's mother and father, I really do from the bottom of my heart."

He wouldn't comment on the severity of the sentence, saying: "I can't answer that, honestly. There's full remorse from me and from my son... There's no words I can give that mother and father, but it will carry in my heart... I'll never get my head round it."
