A 23-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after a car that failed to stop for police crashed into a roundabout.

Five people were taken to hospital just before 2am on Saturday after the incident at the Johnston Bridge in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh.

Police said the blue Ford Focus had failed to stop for police a short time before the collision.

It is believed that six people were travelling in the car at the time of the crash. An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a number of motoring offences but has since been released.

Two other men aged 28 and 27 and two women aged 42 and 22 were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The Johnson Bridge roundabout at the junction with the Cornagrade Road, Queen Elizabeth Road, Queens Street and Halls Lane was closed to traffic and motorists were advised to avoid the area.

Queens Street was reopened following the incident.

Police have appealed for witnesses.
