Environmental campaigners gathered in central Belfast yesterday to call for urgent government action on climate change.

Around 50 Extinction Rebellion protesters took part in an "engagement and awareness day" at Castle Place. The demonstration featured music and street performances.

It follows similar events by climate rebellion activists in cities in the UK and around the world.

In central London yesterday, demonstrations entered a fifth day. Officers surrounded a pink boat in Oxford Circus as actress Dame Emma Thompson told activists her generation had "failed young people".

Nearly 700 people have been arrested at protests this week. Demonstrators also staged a protest at Heathrow Airport.
