‘Escapee’ rapist faces a life term
A serial escapist who was stopped by a rugby-tackling judge is facing a life sentence today.
Paul Reid (34) pleaded guilty to two escape charges just before he was due to face Judge Douglas Marks Moore in court again.
The judge (60) was about to give evidence from the witness box about how he wrestled with Reid as he fled his rape trial last year at Woolwich Crown Court.
Reid was later convicted of the rape offence he was originally charged with committing when he was on the run after escaping another court two years before.
Judge Marks Moore was called into court yesterday to hear that Reid had admitted escape and attempted escape.
Old Bailey Judge Jeremy Roberts said Reid should be jailed for life with a minimum of six years and three months.
