Europa League roundup: Irish league clubs in action

There were mixed results for Irish League clubs in the Europa League first round games on Thursday.

It was heartbreak for Coleraine in Serbia as opponents Spartak Subotica scored a 96th minute penalty to level the game at 1-1.

Still the Bannsiders will be pleased to earn a highly credible draw after Darren McCauley's 23rd minute opener.

Cliftonville were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Danish opponents FC Nordsjælland at Solitude.

Although they would have wanted to keep a clean sheet hope is still alive as they prepare for the second leg next week.

Derry City were beaten 2-0 at the Brandywell by Belarusian opponents Dinamo Minsk.

Steven Gerrard got his Rangers career underway with a 2-0 first leg victory against Macedonian side FK Shkupi at Ibrox.

Jamie Murphy and a James Tavernier penalty gave them victory.

Neil Lennon's Hibs side won their game against Faro Islanders NSÍ Runavík 6-1 thanks to a hat-trick from Florian Kamberi.
