A former bookkeeper has been charged with stealing more than £500,000 from an architectural firm she worked for, it has emerged.

Co Antrim woman Roisin Megarry is alleged to have raided company bank accounts over a seven-year period.

The 37-year-old appeared at Belfast Magistrates Court yesterday along with her husband Steven Megarry, who is accused of lodging some of the money in his own accounts between May 2007 and August 2010.

The couple, from Belvoir Crescent in Lisburn, are set to challenge a prosecution witness in a bid to have the case against them halted.

Mrs Megarry faces two counts of theft by an employee relating to a period between July 2003 and August 2010.

She is alleged to have stolen £528,075.75 in bank credit from an account in the name of Hynds Architectural Systems Ltd based at Glenmachan Street in Belfast.

A second charge relates to the similar theft of £68,427.52 from an account in the name of Skydome Systems Limited.
