Exploris aquarium gets another lifeline in Ards Borough Council vote
Ards Borough Council has voted for another two-month stay of execution in order to find the funds to save Northern Ireland's only aquarium.
In September, the council voted to shut Exploris and sell it off if no funding could be provided from Stormont.
It agreed to allow two months before closing the facility to find funding from Stormont.
But as that two-month deadline passed last night, the council agreed to allow another two months to find the cash. The vote followed an offer of conditional funding from the Department of the Environment.
The council is now working on a business case to present to DoE officials.
