A viable explosive device has been found in a car in Belfast, police said.
A security alert was triggered in the Blackdam Court area in the north of the city after reports of a suspicious object in the vehicle.
A number of residents were evacuated from their homes for most of the day as Army bomb disposal experts examined the car.
The officers carried out a controlled explosion on the object.
It was subsequently confirmed as a viable device and taken away for further examination.
Police said residents would be allowed to return to their homes during the evening.
