Emails from Dermot Parsons to the Chief Medical Officer in which he offered to resign as interim chief executive of the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) were rightly described as embarrassing when they came to light last year.

I am now aware that there is an appearance of a fundamental difference of approach between that promoted by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Chief Social Worker and RQIA executive team members, and that upheld by RQIA Board,” he wrote in one email dated April 29, 2020.
