Facebook site of Northern Ireland 'paedophile hunters' closed down

By Claire O'Boyle

A Facebook site linked to three so-called 'paedophile hunters' has been closed down.

George Keenan, Richard Curtis and Tim Herron, who appeared in court on Tuesday accused of targeting sex offenders and trying to menace a BBC journalist, are understood to have been members of the group, named 'Predator Catchers Northern Ireland'.

The three men each face a list of either 18 or 19 charges including assault, false imprisonment and attempted intimidation across a number of dates since last September.

Keenan (34), Curtis (32), and 28-year-old Herron were all released on bail and told they must desist from activities associated with paedophile hunter groups, have no contact with any co-accused or witnesses, they must not use online social media platforms, websites or instruct others to use them on their behalf.

At the hearing at Belfast Magistrates Court the three men spoke only to confirm the accusations against them.

They will appear in court again in April.
