False alarm sparks plane emergency landing

An airline has said a false alarm sparked an emergency landing at Belfast International Airport.

The Jet2 flight from Majorca was met on the runway by Aldergrove's fire and rescue services after reports of a fire alarm.

The plane touched down safely at about 2.45pm.

A Jet2 spokeswoman said: "The flight from Palma to Belfast International Airport issued a precautionary alert to airport staff due to a false indication.

"The aircraft landed safely."

Belfast International Airport said the "blue light" emergency response was a precaution and all passengers disembarked as normal.
