Family cat loses eye after being shot with air rifle

A family's pet cat has lost an eye after being shot by an air rifle.

The black cat injuries were reported to police in Kircubbin, Co Down, on March 2.

Posting on Ards and North Down PSNI Facebook page. a spokesman said: "Police have unfortunately received a report of an alarming nature in which a member of the community has decided to use a family pet, a cat, as an air rifle target and as a result of its injuries has sadly lost an eye.

"The issue of animal cruelty is hugely emotive and even more so when a family pet is injured in this way.

"To that end police would welcome any information on this incident that would assist in the investigation."

The cat was injured sometime between Sunday February 25 and Friday March 2,

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact police of 101 quoting incident number 684 of 02.03.2018.
