Family remembers IRA murder victim Kevin McGuigan a year on

By Suzanne Breen

The family of Kevin McGuigan, the father-of-nine who was murdered by the IRA last August, gathered in the Short Strand area of Belfast last night to commemorate his death.

Earlier, relatives attended a Mass at St Mary's Church in Belfast city centre to mark the first anniversary of his death. Family and friends of the murder victim then gathered in the McGuigans' Comber Court home for a short religious service.

The 53-year-old was shot in front of his wife Dolores outside their house on August 12, 2015. Although the PSNI has made several arrests, no one has been charged with his murder.

Friends of the McGuigans last night said that, while they remained devastated by his death, they had been determined not to "give into the thugs and bully-boys" and move out of the Short Strand.

A family member yesterday posted on social media: "A year ago today we got the devastating news that you were gone. Our whole family hearts have been shattered."
