Family's devastation after young man is killed in Co Antrim road crash

Friends pay tribute to 'legend'

The family of a young man aged his 20s killed in a road crash in Co Antrim have told of their devastation at their loss.

The incident happened on the Coolkeeran Road at about 10pm on Sunday. Police said three men, also aged in their 20s, remain in hospital.

The victim has been named locally as Dylan O'Kane. Tributes have been paid online to the young man.

His grandfather Hugh O'Kane from Armoy said their family was "completely gutted" at the news and that they are still in shock.

He told the News Letter: "He was a great young lad who kept to himself and was well-liked. He is going to be badly missed.

"We are a big but very close family and everyone has been left completely gutted by what has happened.”

One friend posting online called him "one of the nicest, funniest blokes" while another said he was "a legend".

Another wrote: "Lots of good times with you and you were always up for a laugh. You would never have went past without a hello or a wave. You will be sadly missed big man. Thoughts go out to your family."

North Antrim DUP MLA Mervyn Storey expressed his sadness.

He said: "Yet again another family has been plunged into sorrow following the death of a young man on the Coolkeeran Road.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving family at this time and also with the other young men involved in the accident and I trust that they will make a full recovery."

The road was closed for a time, but has since reopened.  Police are appealing for information.
