Family's joy as missing teen is found

By Victoria Leonard

A missing Belfast teenager has been found safe and well just hours after his distraught family had issued a heartfelt appeal for him to come home.

Nathan Shields had been missing since he was last seen on Sunday, something his family said was “totally out of character”.

Yesterday, the 18-year-old’s father, Bryce Anderson, and sisters Chelsea and Colby joined volunteers at searches in the city for the former Malone College pupil. Police also carried out a search around Belfast Harbour with Lagan Search and Rescue.

But late last night his relieved father Bryce revealed: “He has been found safe and sound.”

He said Nathan had been found in the Finaghy Road South/Upper Lisburn Road area.

He said there were “no words to describe” the family’s relief and that they had “got the result many parents don’t”.

Earlier, Nathan’s mum, Diane Shields, had pleaded with her son to return home, reminding him “how much we all love him”.
