A family pet stolen from its home in Co Antrim has been returned to his delighted owners.

Police said six-year-old Alfie was the victim of what appears to be an opportunisitc dog-napping.

However thanks to the help from a number of businesses in Toombridge, police in Antrim were able to recover Alfie.

Posting on their Facebook page PSNI Antrim said: "With lots of kisses and cuddles for the officers as reward for his rescue, he played it cool and decided to return the favour and help out with a little local patrolling on his way home.

"Once reunited with Sarah, Florence and their Daddy it was all smiles, hugs and waggy tails."
