Family’s lucky escape in gun attack on house
A family of five has escaped injury after a gunman opened fire at their home in east Belfast.
Three children, aged between 10 years and just nine months, were in the house at the time.
It is understood a man fired four shots at the door of the property in the Madrid Street area at around 11.30pm on Tuesday.
No one was hurt in the attack. It’s understood the family have lived in the area for about 10 years.
According to police, the gunman then made off in the direction of Lisbon Street.
Belfast Lord Mayor Niall O’Donnghaile, who lives close to where the attack happened and heard the shots ring out, condemned the incident, which he believes was not sectarian.
He said: “The mother in particular is very, very shaken.”
He called on anyone with information to contact the police immediately.
DUP MLA Sammy Douglas condemned the attack and said that young children getting shot at “is just horrendous in this day and age”.
