Fan cashes in on Rory McIlroy's winning ball
A golf ball thrown into the crowd by Rory McIlroy moments after he won his first Open Championship is attracting bids of hundreds of pounds in an auction.
The winning ball was caught by Leeds fan Lee Horner, who was standing in the crowd at Hoylake as the Holywood golfer clinched his third Major title.
The spectator kept it for a few days before Green Jacket Auctions – the same company that sold a set of Ben Hogan's clubs from 1953 earlier this year – tracked him down and acquired the ball for an undisclosed sum.
The custom Nike RZN Black 'Rors' ball was then quickly put up for auction.
Bidding started last Wednesday and is due to end next month. However, it has already attracted 13 bids, with the highest currently standing at around £1,600.
