Fans encouraged to get to Windsor early for Italy game

The Irish FA and the Amalgamation of Northern Ireland Supporters Clubs are calling on the Green and White Army to get to Windsor Park early on Friday night for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Italy.

The game will kick-off at 7.45pm and fans are being urged to be in the ground by 7.15pm to get the venue rocking.

Nigel Worthington and the Northern Ireland boys got their campaign off to an excellent start by beating Slovenia 1-0 in Maribor — and it is sure to be a great game on October 8 when the team takes on four times World Cup winners Italy.

Windsor Park has become a fortress for the Northern Ireland team over the last five years and much of this is down to the fantastic atmosphere created by the Green and White Army.

“Northern Ireland fan, DJ Pete Snodden has been drafted in to play tunes selected by fans through an online poll on the Ourweecountry fans’ website, tunes which will really get the fans buzzing,” said Jim Rainey from the Amalgamation of NISCs.

“We need a packed Windsor for the teams coming out so we are asking the fans to be there from 7.15pm to get the atmosphere going.

“Plans are in place for a card display in the lower decks of the North and West stands and the new Railway end. Fans will be asked to hold these up as the teams come onto the pitch.

“Each card will be numbered and fans are asked to keep them as there will be a draw in the days after the match for prizes courtesy of the IFA’s Football Far All department.

“Following the win in Slovenia, there’s great expectation of a result against the former World champions and the fans need to do our bit to see that happen”.

Gary McAllister from the Amalgamation of Northern Ireland Supporters Clubs said: “Italy's visit to Belfast is one of the most anticipated games for some time and a positive result would give everyone a tremendous boost for the Euro 2012 campaign.

“As always, the fans have an important role to play in creating another magical atmosphere. Let's try and get to the ground early. Sacrifice that one last drink you have with your mates before the game and save it for afterwards - we could be toasting another historic night at Windsor!”
