Farmer fifth person to die in agricultural accidents this year

By Staff Reporter

The funeral will take place today of a man killed in a weekend farming accident.

James Irwin, who was aged in his 30s, died on Sunday.

He suffered fatal injuries in an accident on Sunday involving a combine harvester, near the family farm at Rhone Road outside Dungannon.

Mr Irwin was engaged to be married to his girlfriend Susan.

His funeral will take place this afternoon in St James' Parish Church in Moy, followed by internment in the adjoining churchyard.

The Irwin family has asked that donations in lieu of flowers be made to St James' church.

A family notice said his death was "very deeply regretted" by his fiancee, mother Gretta, father Robert, brothers Henry and Mark and the wider family circle.

Mr Irwin's relatives were too distressed to speak yesterday.

He is the fifth person to die in a work-related farm accident so far this year.

The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) is investigating.
