Farmer fined £3,000 over pollution offence after slurry discharged into waterway

A Co Tyrone farmer has been fined £3,000 for a polluting offence after slurry was discharged into a waterway.

William James Hall - of Killybracken Road, Dungannon - was fined after an inspector noticed the slurry run-off from his farm had made its way into a small waterway.

The slurry finally made its way into a larger tributary of the Rhone River.

The source was traced to premises owned by Mr Hall.

The offence happened on March 8, 2013.

A sample taken at the time confirmed that the discharge contained "poisonous, noxious or polluting matter which was potentially harmful to fish life in the receiving waterway".
