Fears grow for fugitive as divers search river

Members of the public have been helping in the search for a man who hasn’t been seen since escaping from police custody on Sunday.

David Colhoun was last seen in the Bowling Green Street area of Strabane at around 4am on Sunday.

It is understood the Co Donegal man escaped from police custody while being transferred from one police car to another.

It is believed the 22-year-old Lifford man was last seen heading in the direction of the River Foyle, which marks the border between Counties Tyrone and Donegal.

Family and friends of the missing man helped in searches carried out along the riverbank yesterday.

A PSNI spokesman last night warned people searching for the missing man close to the river to take safety precautions.
