Female pedestrian dies following Glenshane crash

A 48-year-old woman female pedestrian has died following a crash in Derry.

It happened in the early hours of Monday morning on the Glenshane Road.

Inspector Gregory Smyth said: “We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this collision. If you have any information that could help with our investigation, please contact police at Strand Road on telephone number 101, quoting reference 117 of 18/9/17.”

The road has reopened to traffic.

Sinn Fein MP Elisha McCallion expressed sympathy and said the news had come as a "shock" to the local community.

She said: "This death is a tragedy and will bring sadness to all those involved.

"Any death on our roads is one too many.

"I want to express my sympathy to the friends and family of the woman who lost her life at this sad and difficult time.”
