Files theft: ex-Historical Enquiries Team officer held

A 62-YEAR-OLD man arrested over the theft of police documents is a former senior investigator with the Historical Enquiries Team (HET), it has emerged.

Steve Hobbs was arrested after PSNI officers searched a property in Hillsborough, Co Down.

Another search was conducted in the south of England.

The PSNI said a number of items were removed for further examination.

Mr Hobbs left the HET in December. He had previously served as an officer in the Metropolitan Police.

It is understood that police do not believe that anyone's security has been compromised.

The HET was set up in 2005 to investigate thousands of Troubles-related murders.
