Fire causes substantial damage to Carryduff bungalow
More than 20 firefighters spent several hours battling a fire at a house in Co Down yesterday afternoon.
The blaze broke out at the semi-detached bungalow in the Meadowvale Park area of Carryduff at around lunchtime.
Police sealed off the area for over two hours as members of the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service tackled the fire at the property, which was unoccupied at the time.
A spokesman said officers received a report of the blaze at 1.10pm yesterday.
They immediately dispatched three pumping fire engines from Carryduff and an aerial ladder platform to the scene.
A total of 23 on-call fire service personnel attended the incident and extinguished the "well-developed fire" at 3.27pm.
Substantial damage was caused to the interior and roof of the house.
It's believed no other houses were evacuated during the operation.
The spokesman said the cause of the blaze is under investigation but at this early stage it is believed to be accidental.
"The building was empty when the fire started and there were no reports of any injuries," the spokesman added.
