Fire crews tackle blaze at Downe Hospital

Fire crews have been called to tackle a blaze at the old Downe Hospital in Downpatrick.

Firefighters spent several hours from 8pm yesterday trying to extinguish the flames.

It is understood the disused hospital has been targeted by vandals in recent weeks.

SDLP MLA for the area Sean Rodgers has called for the Southern Health and Social Care Trust to “redouble their efforts” to secure the building. “I would call on those responsible to desist from this type of behaviour,” he said.
