Firefighters extinguish blaze in Mater Hospital's laundry room

Thirty firefighters worked to extinguish a blaze at the Mater Hospital in north Belfast on Tuesday.

The fire started in the hospital's laundry room around 4:09pm.

The Fire Service sent five standard appliances and one specialist appliance to the scene.

Firefighters entered the building and extinguished the blaze, they also worked to stop smoke spreading to any of the critical care areas in that part of the hospital.

A Fire Service spokesperson confirmed that the incident was dealt with by 5.38pm.

He said that an investigation was now under way to determine the cause of the fire.

No patients were evacuated as a result of the fire.

A Belfast Trust spokesperson confirmed there had been an "incident" at the hospital and said they are trying to establish the facts surrounding it.
