Firefighters under attack while attending Downpatrick blaze

Members of the Fire Service have been stoned by youths while attending an incident in Downpatrick.

The units were called out over the weekend to a fire in the Flying Horse area where the attack happened.

Posting on its Facebook page, a spokesperson for the PSNI Down district said that it had dealt with numerous calls of anti-social behaviour around the same area, and that children using scramblers was an issue.

"We are asking you, the local community to support police and to assist us by knowing what your children are doing," they said.

"Police are also aware of youths in the John Street area causing annoyance to residents. These children are as young as 12. Where is your child this evening?"

They added that police will continue to deal with all types of call outs in the area, but that anti-social behaviour impeded their ability to do so.

Anyone with any information about anti-social behaviour is asked to contact the police on the non-emergency number 101 or independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
