First phase of new school opens

By Brénna Walsh

Grosvenor Grammar School has officially opened a new sports hall as part of a multi-million pound development.

The hall was named after retired headmaster John Lockett, who was headmaster at the school for 15 years, from 1993 until his retirement in 2008.

The opening of the sports hall unveiled the first part of a new £20 million school, which will open on April 20.

Grosvenor Grammar is the latest of seven schools across east Belfast to receive a new building.

The development is part of a £400 million strategic partnership between the Belfast Education and Library Board (BELB) and construction consortium Amey FMP.

The opening of the new sports hall was marked by the intermediate team semi-final of the Belfast league netball tournament.
