Five people have been taken to hospital - with one person being treated in intensive care - after being involved in a head-on collision in west Belfast.

Five people were taken to hospital after a  Ford Fiesta and a Peugeot 307 were involved in the crash on the Colinglen Road at around 10.35pm.

The 18-year-old male driver of the Fiesta and two passengers, a 20-year-old male and an 18-year-old female, were taken to hospital.

The male passenger is understood to be in the Intensive Care Unit ICU receiving treatment for a serious head injury.

The 22-year-old female driver of the Peugeot and a 19-year-old female passenger were also taken to hospital however none of their injuries were described as life threatening.

It is understood two people were cut free from the cars by emergency services.

A Belfast Trust spokeswoman the 19-year-old female has since been discharged.

While the 18-year-old male, 18-year-old female and 22-year-old female's conditions are all described as stable.

The 20-year-old man remains in a critical condition.

Inspector Roberta Morris said: "We are keen to hear from witnesses or anyone who was travelling on the Colinglen Road and who saw either vehicle prior to the collision. The number to call is 101."
